Frequently Asked Questions
Acupuncture regulates various physiological functions in the body and stimulates the body’s natural ability to heal. It is a safe, natural, drug-free approach to wellness.
Stimulation of the acupuncture needle communicates with the nervous system and inhibits pain by the release of endorphins, our body’s own natural painkillers. This causes an analgesic effect and reduces pain.
Acupuncture also increases circulation, decreases inflammation and promotes faster healing of the tissue.
Acupuncture modulates how your nervous system communicates to your hormonal system. This means acupuncture can have a direct effect on your hormones and can regulate the menstrual cycle, promote ovulation, support the luteal phase for implantation, balance hormones/regulate hormonal activity, stimulate the growth of a healthy uterine lining, increase libido and reduce stress with trying to conceive.
Not at all, this is one of the biggest misconceptions about acupuncture. The needles are very fine and flexible and would compare to that of a human hair or cat whisker. Acupuncture needles are virtually painless when inserted in the skin. Most people find acupuncture extremely relaxing and fall asleep during treatment.
You will feel better! That could include less pain, increased range of motion decrease frequency of headaches, better sleep, improved menstrual cycles just to name a few.
This depends on your individual situation and what is being treated. If you are experiencing pain, acupuncture is often recommended once to twice per week depending on how acute or chronic the issue is.
We’ve had patients conceive in the very first month after treatment, for some it takes longer. Our general recommendation is a 3-6 month timeframe on average.
Absolutely! Acupuncture is recommended at a regular frequency during your first trimester of your pregnancy and can help with anxiety, nausea and vomiting, fatigue, constipation, headaches and heartburn. During the second trimester pregnancy acupuncture can help with hemorrhoids, stress, sleep problems, edema, elevated blood pressure, alleviate sciatica, hip, joint and back pain. During the third trimester acupuncture can encourage babies in the breech position to engage head down, prepare for delivery as well as encourage labour.
